Field Hockey Eyes Another Title as Hosts of MAC Tournament

No. 1 Kent State field hockey will host the Mid-American Conference Tournament this Friday and Saturday at Murphy-Mellis Field. The Flashes will first face No. 4 Ball State to start the tournament at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

Friday 11:30 a.m.- No. 1 Kent State vs No. 4 Ball State
Friday 2:00 p.m.- No. 2 Miami vs No. 3 Longwood
Saturday 2:00 p.m.- Championship match

Ball State
• Kent State beat Ball State 3-1 at home this season and is now 32-33 against them all-time
• The Golden Flashes have won 12 of the last 13 meetings, losing most recently in Muncie in 2011 in an overtime game
Longwood
• Kent State beat Longwood 3-2 in overtime on the road this season to improve to 3-1 against them all-time
• The Lancers joined the MAC in 2014 and 2016 marks their first tournament appearance
• Longwood's lone win came at a neutral site in 1986, a 3-1 victory
Miami
• Kent State beat Miami 2-1 on the road in overtime in a classic battle this season, improving to 47-32-2 all-time
• The Golden Flashes have now won the last six meetings dating back to 2013
• The RedHawks took both meetings in 2011 and 2012 to win four straight prior to that

MAC Tournament History
• Kent State has won the last two MAC Tournaments, beating Miami in double overtime last season and Ohio in the championship game also hosted at Murphy-Mellis Field in 2014
• The Flashes are also the last team to win three straight tournaments as they did so 1998-2000
• Ball State is the only other school in MAC history to win three-straight tournaments.
