KENT, Ohio – Galal Cancer scored a career-high 24 points and Kent State's defense shut down Western Michigan in overtime to secure an 85-78 victory on Tuesday night at the M.A.C. Center.
The Golden Flashes needed overtime to beat the Broncos in the Mid-American Conference opener in Kalmazoo on Jan. 5. Western's Thomas Wilder forced another extra session on a driving layup with 1.1 seconds remaining in regulation. From there, KSU held Western to just 1-for-6 shooting from the field.
"This was a huge win for us and I'm proud of the effort our guys put forth tonight," said head coach Rob Senderoff, whose Flashes improved to 17-9 overall.
