Kent State's Brandon Avers and Clark Bookman ran strong 5,000-meter races as members of the track and field program were in action at two different meets on Friday.
Avers won the first section of the event in a time of 15:11.20 for his first collegiate 5K title at the Jesse Owens Classic. In the men's 5K showcase race, Bookman crossed the finish line in 15:00.75 to place second.
Maddie Dunlap (17:47.43) took fourth in the women's 5K showcase, while Rachel Banks (4:40.41) took ninth to in the women's 1500-meter run.
