EMPORIA — Brent Wilson and John Roderique faced off in an old-fashioned shootout Saturday at Welch Stadium, and Wilson and the No. 18 Emporia State Hornets came out on top with a 46-41 come-from-behind victory against No. 13 Pittsburg State.
Wilson threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Kavaski Ervin with 2:06 left in the game to give the Hornets (6-0) the win. The senior finished with 336 yards passing and four touchdowns, showing the poise that has come to define him on the game-winning march.
“How he handles this type of atmosphere and this type of game is big,” Emporia State coach Garin Higgins said.
