A strong overall team performance saw the Kansas State track and field team earn nine first-place finishes and have one school record broken as competition at the John McDonnell Invitational came to a close on Saturday.
Over the course of the weekend, K-State won a total of 12 events, including three on the first day of the competition.
The Wildcat throwers had a dominant second day of competition, winning five of the six events they competed in. Freshman Tyler Merkley opened the day with a first place finish in hammer throw with a mark of 200-05, followed by Kyle Smith, who finished second with a mark of 190-01.
