Right now there are 53 bowl-eligible teams, and 23 that can no longer reach the requisite six wins. That leaves 52 on the postseason bubble, some in much stronger position than others.
A record 80 teams will make the postseason this year, so those 52 are competing for 27 spots. That sounds like a lot of teams still in the mix, but some of them are long shots to reach six wins. It's not too early to start charting your favorite team's Academic Progress Rate score, as that metric will determine which 5-7 teams earn bowl spots if the pool of six-win teams dries up.
