For the third consecutive contest, the Kansas State Wildcats played an extra five minutes and won, beating the Villanova Wildcats 72-71 in overtime Tuesday night as part of the Big East-Big 12 Battle.
Battle the game was. Behind the stellar efforts of Arthur Kaluma and a defense that finally locked in, K-State (7-2, 6-0 Home) overcame a hot shooting start from the visiting Wildcats to erase a six-point early deficit and lead 33-25 at intermission. Kaluma scored 19 and grabbed 8 rebounds in the half. His driving bucket with 0.4 on the clock, together with the resulting foul and free throw, gave K-State momentum and what seemed, at the time, a commanding lead.
