MANHATTAN — Tyler Lockett, a senior wide receiver on the Kansas State football team, was named the school's male athlete of the year for the second year in a row while Akela Jones of the track and field team was selected female athlete of the year at the Mark A. Chapman Powercat Choice Awards on Wednesday.
Lockett concluded his career with 17 school records and last week was a third-round choice of the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL Draft. Jones was the Big 12 indoor long jump champion and a multiple All-American.
Top team honors went to football and women's track and field, track coach Cliff Rovelto was coach of the year and women's golf won the Wildcat Cup for excellence in five core areas of student-athlete well-being: Academics, athletics, career, personal and service.
