MANHATTAN — The scenario has been repeated countless times over the years: An in-state player comes to Kansas State as a walk-on to the football program, works his way through a redshirt year, shows promise on special teams, earns a scholarship and eventually becomes an impact player.
Linebacker Jonathan Truman was a prime example, leading K-State in tackles last season as a senior when he was second team All-Big 12.
Trent Tanking is working his way along the same path. The sophomore from Holton came to K-State as a walk-on in 2013 and redshirted, then last year he was a key performer on special teams.
