Texas San Antonio’s strong ties to Kansas State got even stronger on Friday when the university announced it has hired former Wildcat standout Steve Henson as its sixth men’s basketball coach.
Henson’s hiring was announced by UTSA president Ricardo Romo and associate vice president/director of athletics Lynn Hickey. Like Henson, Hickey is a member of K-State’s Athletics Hall of Fame. She was inducted in 2004 as recognition for leading the Wildcat women’s basketball team to a 125-39 record and two national tournament berths from 1979-84.
Hickey on Friday said she believes Henson can produce similar successes at UTSA after serving as a longtime assistant to Oklahoma coach Lon Kruger, whose Sooners will play Villanova on Saturday in the Final Four.
