SLATE: Alex Barnes and Duke Shelley had breakfast and the rest is history

Today is the 25th anniversary of a truly infamous event. On October 15, 1998, the Kansas State Wildcats ventured to Norman to face the Oklahoma Sooners. K-State had lost 17 in a row to the Sooners; they’d lost the eight games in Norman over that span by a combined score of 359-86.

Nobody expected much.

The Wildcats did do something right; they ran for more yards than Oklahoma gained through the air. They also threw for 347 yards, and managed to put 24 points on the board.

Of course, they also threw three picks, lost two fumbles, and let Oklahoma run for a school-record 768 yards in a 70-24 rout, at which point Stan Parrish’s fate was pretty much sealed.
