Running game key for K-State against West Virginia

MANHATTAN — One yard.

That was Kansas State’s rushing total in last year’s game against West Virginia, a statistic that still is fresh in coach Bill Snyder’s mind.

“We gained 45 yards and lost 44, and those 44 weren’t out of sacks,” Snyder said. “It was missed execution and positive play on the defense’s part.”

Despite the non-existent running game, K-State beat West Virginia thanks to a 400-yard passing day by Jake Waters, 196 receiving yards by Tyler Lockett and four field goals by Matthew McCrane.

With a revitalized rushing attack in recent games, the Wildcats (5-6, 2-6 Big 12) know running the ball will be important to get past the Mountaineers (7-4, 4-4) at 3:30 p.
