MANHATTAN — Two years ago, Jake Waters made his only college start in his home state and the Kansas State quarterback turned in one of his best games. The native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed for 239 yards and rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a 32-28 victory at Iowa State.
Another quarterback from Iowa finds himself in a similar scenario this week when junior Jesse Ertz, from Burlington, leads K-State (4-3, 2-2 Big 12) against the Cyclones (1-6, 0-4) at 11 a.m. Saturday in Ames.
“I was there two years ago when Jake was there and you could see more of a killer instinct,” Wildcat tight end Dayton Valentine said Tuesday.
