MANHATTAN — They grew up as rivals competing against each other in multiple sports, representing their small Kansas hometowns located 55 miles apart.
Nicole Ohlde, from Clay Center, and Kendra Wecker, from Marysville, admit they weren’t the best of friends as they looked across the basketball and volleyball court or softball field.
“In high school we didn’t necessarily like each other, but that was just both of us being competitors and wanting to win,” Ohlde said. “It continued to escalate through junior high and high school when there were packed gyms for girls’ high school basketball games.
