Local sports briefs for Aug. 3: Wildcats receive first defensive commitment for 2016

Kansas State received its eighth commitment for the 2016 football recruiting class, the first from a defensive player, when Oklahoma linebacker Jimmy McKinney announced his oral pledge on Monday.

McKinney is a 6-foot, 230-pound inside linebacker from Oologah, Okla., and is rated by Rivals.com as a two-star prospect.

His other offers included Air Force, Wyoming, Colorado State, Missouri State and Arkansas State. He also had received interest from Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.
