RIO DE JANEIRO — A trio of athletes with ties to Kansas’ largest universities wrapped up competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics on Saturday.
Former Kansas athlete Mason Finley placed 11th in the finals of men’s discus while former Jayhawk Andrea Geubelle finished 21st in the qualifying round of the women’s triple jump.
Finley, who threw at KU from 2010-12, was sixth in Friday’s qualifying. The 11th-place finish is the best by an American athlete in Olympic discus since 2004.
Kansas State’s Akela Jones plummeted to 20th place in the women’s heptathlon on Saturday night, finishing with 6,173 points.
