Sometimes those pregame discussions, when opposing football coaches chat near midfield, create lasting memories.
Glen Mason remembers a few such exchanges with Bill Snyder.
When each began coaching in the state — Mason in 1988 at Kansas and Snyder in 1989 at Kansas State — the two programs were among the worst in college football.
Before taking their respective jobs, both were involved in programs that won games at KU and K-State the previous season, Mason as head coach at Kent State and Snyder as offensive coordinator at Iowa.
“We stood out there and talked about all the work we had to do because it was looked on as a joke,’’ Mason said.
