MANHATTAN – The football scholarship was secured in time for Will Geary’s father to know.
Geary, a walk-on defensive tackle for Kansas State, made a freshman splash for the Wildcats that was not altogether surprising.
Those who followed him as an athlete at Topeka High knew Geary had the determination to fit in at the highest level of college football. He shed enough blockers in football, pinned enough heavyweights in wrestling and overpowered enough iron in the weight room to convince those in the know.
And his dad, Mike Geary, knew best.
He talked to Troy football coach Walt Alexander every other day about Will’s progress.
