Kevin Haskin: Frank Mason’s grit again lifts Kansas

MANHATTAN – Frank Mason did not make his first nine shots Monday like he did in his previous basketball game for Kansas.

But the senior point guard was not going to let the Jayhawks be dealt another loss.

With the Sunflower Showdown drawing close to a minute left, Mason went scrambling into press row. When he re-emerged, he bolted toward the ball and made a steal.

Although he committed a turnover racing downcourt, the gritty toughness Mason has brought all season was on full display. And the Jayhawks weren’t going to lose, holding off Kansas State 74-71 in Bramlage Coliseum.
