MANHATTAN – The committee Kansas State assembled for running backs last season could be tabled.
Alex Barnes is that good.
“You like to see somebody separate himself,’’ said Kansas State coach Bill Snyder, “and Alex tended to move himself in that direction toward the end of the season.’’
At least until the ending was cut short. A sideline blast from Kansas safety Mike Lee created the first problem for Barnes, who injured his neck on the play and left him with 103 yards on just 10 carries in the win against the Jayhawks.
Barnes missed the last regular-season game, but figured to return for the Texas Bowl, only to suffer a freak workout injury.
