Denzel Goolsby, a sophomore defensive back from Wichita, will start at strong safety for Kansas State when the Wildcats open the football season against Central Arkansas on Saturday.
Goolsby was one of a handful of first-time starters listed on K-State’s first public depth chart, which was released on Tuesday. The Bishop Carroll product came to K-State as a freshman expecting to play receiver or running back, but he will make his first start on defense. Goolsby switched to safety last season in search of playing time and appears to have found it.
He beat out junior-college transfer Eli Walker for the open spot, and will replace Dante Barnett in the secondary.
