MANHATTAN — A four-year path of progress has brought Kyle Smith to his ultimate destination.
Smith, a senior on the Kansas State track and field team, has shown steady improvement to cap his collegiate career by qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the hammer throw.
“This was my expectation and the goal I set prior to my freshman year,” said Smith, a Topeka native and Silver Lake High School product. “This was it for me. For the first time, I’ve actually made it to nationals. I got the biggest goal.”
Smith is one of 15 K-State competitors going to the NCAA meet Wednesday through Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
