K-State’s Kindred Wesemann enjoys her shot of fame

MANHATTAN — In the postgame news conference after the Kansas State women’s basketball season ended with a second-round NCAA Tournament loss to Stanford, Wildcats coach Jeff Mittie took the wraps of a secret: Senior guard Kindred Wesemann had been playing through an elbow injury that would have sidelined many players, he said, and would require surgery.

Wesemann still had a few shots left in that elbow, putting her long-range shooting skills on display to win the State Farm 3-Point Championship last Thursday in Phoenix.

Wesemann went 3-for-3 at the event, part of the winning team in the Be the Match Team Shootout before winning the women’s 3-point contest over seven other competitors then beating men’s 3-point champion Peter Jok of Iowa in the Shoe Carnival Battle of the Champions.
