MANHATTAN — Dean Wade was a unique presence in the Sunflower Showdown basketball game between Kansas State and Kansas on Monday, the only Kansas native who played.
Wade, the K-State sophomore from St. John, turned in his second 20-point game of the season against KU but the Wildcats came up short both times, falling 74-71 to the No. 3 Jayhawks at Bramlage Coliseum.
“He’s a Kansas kid,” KU coach Bill Self said. “He’s playing against KU, just like Perry Ellis was a Kansas kid when he played against K-State and he always played well against K-State. I don’t think that’s totally unusual.
