Coach Jeff Mittie describes his Kansas State women’s basketball team as a group of grinders.
The Wildcats displayed that grit Friday, fighting back from a nine-point halftime deficit to beat George Washington 56-51 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
“Our group did what they did all season,” Mittie said. “They grinded it out and trusted each other, and we now have an opportunity because of that.”
The “opportunity” is a second-round matchup against South Carolina, the No. 1 seed in the Sioux Falls Region, at 6 p.m. Sunday in Columbia, S.C. The game will be televised on ESPN.
