The first set between Kansas State and West Virginia had just come to an end Saturday night at Ahearn Fieldhouse. Music blared. Roars pierced the gym. K-State was in the driver’s seat.
Or so it seemed.
The Wildcats dispatched West Virginia quickly in set one, 25-12, but faltered in the following sets, and the momentum K-State had seized in the first set slowly dissolved over the next four sets.
Fortunately for the Wildcats, though, they held on. Senior Brooke Sassin and junior Bryna Voge totaled 16 kills each, and K-State escaped with a 3-2 victory (25-12, 21-25, 26-24, 20-25, 15-8) over a pesky Mountaineer squad, in a match best described by its many swings of momentum.
