Spring football practice didn’t produce a starting quarterback for Kansas State amid the competition between Joe Hubener, Jesse Ertz and Alex Delton. Now, another contender is set to join the race.

Junior college quarterback Jonathan Banks has given K-State an oral commitment, transferring from Contra Costa (Calif.) College with three years of eligibility. He was a qualifier out of high school so he is able to transfer after one year of juco.

Banks is a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder from Houston who is rated by Rivals.com as a four-star prospect. The dual-threat quarterback completed 140 of 235 passes for 1,992 yards and 17 touchdowns last season at Contra Costa while rushing for 700 yards and 11 TDs.
