K-State offensive lineman Luke Hayes settling in at guard

MANHATTAN — The 2014 football season was one of transition for Luke Hayes.

Hayes transferred to Kansas State from Butler Community College and was considered the leading candidate to step into the left tackle position. During spring practice, however, he moved to right guard and quickly adapted to the change.

“It wasn’t bad,” Hayes, who started 12 games, said of the position transition. “At the beginning it was hard but I felt like I got the hang of it pretty quickly and the transition was pretty easy.

“The footwork was the biggest thing. You have to be more precise with your footwork.
