Over the past two weeks, barring a championship run through the Big 12 Tournament to earn an automatic NCAA Tournament berth, Kansas State coach Bruce Weber and the Wildcat basketball players lobbied for a bid to the NIT.
The Wildcats were not selected for the NIT on Sunday, and following that news Weber announced the Wildcats would not participate in any postseason tournament.
Had it been invited, K-State had considered playing in the Vegas 16, a first-year single-elimination event that will announce its field Monday.
“We fell short this season of reaching our goal of playing in the NCAA Tournament,” Weber said in a K-State news release, “and although we were disappointed to not be selected for the NIT, I am proud of our players for their hard work and perseverance through this season.
