K-State loses football recruit Zach Shackelford

Kansas State’s 2016 football recruiting class took a big hit Sunday when long-time commit Zach Shackelford announced he will stay in-state and sign with Texas.

Shackelford, an offensive guard from Belton, Texas, made an oral commitment to K-State last July but continued to explore his options, recently taking an official visit to Texas. Wildcats head coach Bill Snyder and offensive line coach Charlie Dickey made an in-home visit to Shackelford last week but were unable to retain the three-star recruit.

“This was one of the hardest decisions of my life,” Shackelford posted on Twitter, “and it took countless hours of thinking, talking and praying to make the choice that is best for me and my future.
