SAN ANTONIO — Missing three field goals in a six-point loss to Auburn last season cost Jack Cantele his job as Kansas State’s place-kicker.
Cantele naturally felt bad about the situation, but his emotions ran more toward his mother, Susan, than himself.
“The hardest part was seeing my mom,” Cantele said. “She takes it harder than anyone and when I saw her after that game it was probably the worst feeling in the world, worse than missing the kicks.”
Cantele, who was efficient for the Wildcats as a sophomore in 2013, kept plugging away and made good in a second-chance opportunity.
