KANSAS CITY, Mo. – There was nothing spectacular or flashy from Kansas State, just solid basketball. And even with some shaky free throw shooting down the stretch, that’s all it needed.
K-State took care of business to dispatch Oklahoma State 75-71 in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship on Wednesday at Sprint Center.
The No. 8-seeded Wildcats took control early, using a 19-4 run to build a 21-8 lead midway through the first half.
The Cats had trouble putting away the Cowboys, who drew as close as six points with 1:24 remaining. Over the final 1:36, K-State made only 6 of 12 free throws but was able to survive after leading by as many as 18 points in the first half and 17 at halftime.
