MANHATTAN — Whether by design or out of necessity, Kansas State had a youth movement in its season-opening football game Saturday.
Eight players, including six freshmen or sophomores, made their first start in K-State’s 34-0 victory over South Dakota and there were some impact performances. Redshirt freshman Justin Silmon was the leading rusher with 51 yards on six carries, redshirt freshman Dominique Heath was the leading receiver with three catches for 54 yards and redshirt freshman fullback Winston Dimel scored two touchdowns.
On defense, sophomores Elijah Lee (linebacker) and Kaleb Prewett (free safety) led the way with six and five tackles, respectively, and redshirt freshman Kendall Adams played the second half at strong safety for the injured Dante Barnett (shoulder).
