K-State fans paint Houston purple at pep rally

HOUSTON — More than 2,000 Kansas State fans shuffled into BBVA Compass Stadium on Tuesday afternoon for a pep rally ahead of Wednesday night’s Texas Bowl between the Wildcats and Texas A& M.

Playing off a theme from the season, K-State athletic director John Currie got the crowd on its feet, along with performances from the K-State marching band, cheerleaders and Classy Cats, asking attendees to respond to a phrase by saying another phrase back to him.

“I’m going to say, ‘Who owns Texas?’” Currie told them, “and the response is, ‘We own Texas.’” Wildcat fans stood in long lines on a hot Houston day, more than 30 minutes before the Houston Dynamos’ stadium, which is home a professional soccer team, opened to the public.
