K-State duo wins college fishing national championship

Chalk up a national championship for the K-State Wildcats. Or reel it in.

The duo of Kyle Alsop, who is from Overland Park, and Travis Blenn made Kansas State the victor on Friday in the 2017 YETI FLW College Fishing National Championship at Wheeler Lake in Florence, Ala.

Alsop and Blenn had a five-bass limit totaling 11 pounds, 11 ounces on Friday and a three-day total of 15 bass for 44 pounds, 12 ounces.

That was good enough for K-State to hold off the University of South Carolina and win the title.

Alsop and Blenn will compete against each other on Saturday in a one-day fish-off at Wilson Lake in Alabama, with the winner moving on to the Forrest Wood Cup.
