K-State defense must be up to speed against West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Two years ago, Kansas State got the first extended look at West Virginia quarterback Skyler Howard before any other Big 12 team. The Wildcats saw the potential of the young quarterback that is now being realized.

K-State held a 20-3 lead in the third quarter at West Virginia in 2014 when Mountaineer starter Clint Trickett was knocked out of the game with a concussion. Howard, then a sophomore junior college transfer, came in and completed 15 of 23 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns to lead a rally that fell short as the Wildcats escaped with a 26-20 victory.
