AMES, Iowa — The first half was a total disaster for Kansas State.
The offense was out of sync and the defense kept leaving Iowa State sharp-shooter Matt Thomas alone, and he responded with six 3-point baskets and 20 points as K-State faced a 17-point deficit.
Another Thomas trey to open the second half made it a 20-point game and seemingly had the Wildcats buried.
Not so fast.
The Wildcats silenced Thomas, found an offensive spark with some transition and 3-pointers from Xavier Sneed and came roaring back to go in front by one point with five minutes remaining.
