K-State builds 24-0 halftime lead despite injury to Ertz

MANHATTAN — An electric start for Kansas State in its season-opening football game Saturday quickly experienced an energy loss.

Morgan Burns returned the game's opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown to get the Wildcats rolling against South Dakota, but on their first offensive snap starting quarterback Jesse Ertz came up limping after a running play.

Ertz took one more snap before coming off the field, where he was examined and then taken to the locker room for further examination. No information was available on the status of Ertz, who suffered a torn ACL in his final high school game in 2012.
