K-State basketball looks to build on strong debut performance

MANHATTAN — Coach Bruce Weber had no idea what to expect from his rebuilt Kansas State basketball team in its first exhibition game against Emporia State.

He went so far as to give a warning to athletics director John Currie.

“Emporia State returned its top six scorers from last year and had four Division I transfers and three of them started,” Weber said. “We’re just so unknown.

“I told Mr. Currie if we lose, don’t be surprised because I had no idea.”

Turns out Weber may have overreacted. The Wildcats handled the Division II Hornets just as they should with a dominant 80-42 victory.
