K-State basketball hopes for NIT invitation

The NIT is a consolation prize for teams that don’t make the NCAA Tournament, and it’s one that Kansas State would gladly accept.

K-State, with a 17-16 record following a quarterfinal exit in the Big 12 Tournament, will learn if it made the cut for the 32-team NIT when the field is announced at 7:30 p.m. Sunday following the release of the NCAA bracket. The NIT selection show will be carried on ESPNU.

“I believe we deserve to be in the NIT,” coach Bruce Weber said after the Wildcats’ 85-63 loss to Kansas in the Big 12 tourney.
