Kansas State athletics director John Currie is headed back to the University of Tennessee, K-State athletics department sources confirmed to The Mercury on Tuesday.
Currie was in his eighth year at K-State and was hired on May 18, 2009 to replace Bob Krause. His 2016 pay was $801,507.
Currie came to K-State from Tennessee, where he worked in the athletics department in several capacities from 1997-2009 and received a master’s in sports management in 2003.
As K-State athletics director, the Wildcats won three conference titles in 2012-13 in football, men’s basketball and baseball.
Currie’s biggest hire at K-State was men’s basketball coach Bruce Weber, who has a 392-209 overall record, including 79 wins at K-State.
