Despite holding the lead going into the final event, Kansas State’s Akela Jones finished third in the heptathlon at the NCAA Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Eugene, Ore.
Jones entered Saturday’s competition sitting in first place after four events on Friday. She maintained her lead through the first two events on Saturday, but finished last in the 800-meter run to take third overall with 6,063 points.
Senior Kim Williamson cleared 6-02 to win the national title in high jump. The K-State women finished in seventh place with 29 points.
Jones opened the heptathlon on Friday running her second-fastest time of the season in the 100 meter hurdles with a mark of 13.
