MANHATTAN — In a sadly ironic twist, Jesse Ertz’s college football career began in earnest in the same fashion in which his high school career ended.
Ertz suffered a torn ACL in the Iowa Class 2A playoffs his senior year in 2012, preventing him from playing in the state championship game. On Saturday, Ertz made his first collegiate start for Kansas State and lasted all of two plays against South Dakota.
Ertz had a 5-yard run on K-State’s first snap of the game and the redshirt sophomore came up limping. He took one more snap before coming off the field where he was examined before being carted off to the locker room with an undisclosed injury.
