Hubener takes improbable road to becoming K-State’s starting QB

Joe Hubener waited a long time for this opportunity.

The Kansas State junior has waited longer than most, in fact, having never started a game at quarterback at any level.

All that changes Saturday when Hubener leads the Wildcats into San Antonio against UTSA at the Alamodome for an 11 a.m. kickoff on Fox Sports 1.

“This is my first-career start ever and I’ve got something to prove,” said Hubener, who entered last week’s game on the third play for the injured Jesse Ertz. “Hopefully, we can go down there as a team and beat them and prove something out there.
