SPRINGFIELD, N.J. — On a day that began with heavy rains and a 45-minute weather suspension, Robert Streb suspected the greens at fabled Baltusrol would be receptive to low scores during the second round of the PGA Championship.
But when Streb began his round at 2:30 p.m. Friday, he had no idea a record would be in the cards.
“I thought a few under was possible with the conditions, but that was about it,” Streb said.
For Streb, what proved possible must have seemed like a dream. The former Kansas State All-American birdied three of his final four holes to tie the major championship single-round record with only the 30th 63 in history.
