Former K-State receiver Tyler Lockett chosen Big 12 male athlete of the year

The last honor in Tyler Lockett’s well-decorated Kansas State football career was announced Monday — the best men’s athlete in the Big 12 Conference for 2014-15.

Lockett, who earned All-America honors for his kick- and punt-return prowess, was a third-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in the May NFL Draft.

Lockett becomes the second Wildcats football player in the last three years to be chosen top men’s athlete in the conference. Quarterback Collin Klein, a Heisman Trophy finalist, earned the distinction in 2012-13.

The Big 12 award caps a senior year in which Lockett was chosen as the nation’s top return specialist (Johnny Rodgers Award) and led the nation in punt-return average (19.
