MANHATTAN — As a fifth-year senior in 2016, safety Dante Barnett was jokingly called “Grandpa” by his Kansas State teammates.
Duke Shelley doesn’t approach Barnett’s aged status, but entering his third year at K-State and a two-year starter at cornerback he already is feeling like the old veteran of the secondary.
“I know these guys look at me that way because I’ve been playing for two years now,” Shelley said. “I’ve tried to step up to the plate and take on that role of being a vet.”
While Barnett’s experience and leadership will be missed, Shelley is just one piece of a veteran secondary that includes senior safety Kendall Adams, senior nickleback Cre Moore and junior corner D.
