The identity of the Kansas State and West Virginia basketball teams begins on defense. It isn’t always pretty, but it can be extremely effective when executed at a high level.
The Wildcats and Mountaineers, who square off Saturday in Morgantown, W.Va., use their defense to kick-start the offense.
“We both play a different style,” K-State associate head coach Chris Lowery, filling in for head coach Bruce Weber, said Thursday on the Big 12 teleconference. “It’s not glamorous. It’s a rough-and-tough, mano y mano type of offense and defense that we both play. To have guys willing to do that at a high level, the credit has to go to Bruce Weber and coach (Bob) Huggins.
