It took a while for Kansas State to get started Monday night — basically the entire first half — but once the Wildcats did, they were no match for the visitors from UT Rio Grande Valley.
K-State used a dominant third quarter to erase an ugly first half, riddled with turnovers and missed shots, to defeat the Vaqueros, 61-43, at Bramlage Coliseum.
“I thought offensively, it was a struggle most of the night,” K-State head coach Jeff Mittie said. “We just seemed to really struggle moving the basketball.”
The Wildcats (7-1) only led by four at halftime, but used a 19-4 run in the third quarter — outscoring the Vaqueros 21-9 in the period — to take control and lead 45-29 going into the fourth to never look back.
