Cats surrender four-run lead in loss at WVU

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — The Kansas State baseball team surrendered four runs in the eighth to cap West Virginia’s four-run comeback on Sunday, as the Wildcats were unable to finish the weekend sweep losing 5-4 at Monongalia County Ballpark.

Leading 4-0 entering the bottom of the sixth, K-State (16-20, 3-9 Big 12) yielded a run in the sixth before a four-spot in the eighth — off relievers Jordan Floyd and Lucas Benenati — allowed the Mountaineers (18-16, 5-6) to stave off the Wildcats’ first sweep in a Big 12 series since 2013.

West Virginia had nine of its 11 hits in the game over the final 17 batters, while K-State was held to just two hits over the final four innings.
